Martin: Thanks a lot for your advice, you've saved my money. It is interesting, Vanuz has very good experience with Scierra EDP, no rust a it works well.
I have tried some 5wt rod (Sage Xp), 8wt rod (Sage Xi2), 6wt rods (G.Loomis GLX CC and St.Croix Legend Ulra) which I used for freshwater too. Then I deciced to purchase rod only for saltwater and I think my decision was right.
Fly-only: Thanks to. I had Danielsson LW too, but in size 2Five and it was to small for 7wt Outbound line. But you are true, Danielsson produces excellent reels.

Well, I vote for Danielsson Reels as worlds ultimate sexiest and durable line holders. Everything else is squirt guns in my opinion (says a true Danielsson fan, so sorry, guys 😉 )
My preferred rods for seatrout fishing I ad to the Danielssons are for calm conditions and autumn fishing a 9,6-6-4 TCR, for mid and allround conditions a 9,3-7-4 Xi2 and for heavier conditions a 9-9-3 RPLXi. And a couple of other rods to fool around.
Fly lines are mostly a Loop Opti Still #6 for the TCR, a Guideline Pounch #6 for the Xi2 #7 and a bucket full of other fly lines to fool around ;-)

your favourite seatrout outfit.
I have quite a few outfits, but most are medium fast rods and a good reel - the rods I use most are Loomis GL3, Loomis IMX and Scierra MPA and HMS. Rod weights are #5-#7 and all are 9'.
(would like to change it for Scierra Traxion reel - it is difficult to find some in the shops)
Do NOT go for a Traxion reel for sea trout. I had a good connection with Scierra, who was nice enough to provide me with several Traxion reels. Let me say it like this: I have one left, which has never seen salt. The rest were all returned because of rust - some to the extend where they were useless. I can't recommend them.
Go for Okuma Helios as I have said many times before. It's half of what the Scierra is and four times as good.
This is one of my Scierra reels, which I returned:

Hi Matthew,
because of the final fine steps would I use that leader for fishing with a #5-6 rod on rivers etc.
If you will use such kind of leader for heavier rods, you need to reduce the single taper-steps (to for ex. 3) and maybe rise the strength.
It´s a little difficult to explain, because I use mono wich counts kg and not lbs. But vaguely the butt section should have 38-45 lbs, the middle section 23-30 down to 14-16, the tip section 9-11to 8 lbs and then the swivel and thippet. That would be fine for an allround river leader which will be ca. 4,5 yrds.

Hi there T.L.,
Thanks for the info it will really help and I will put your suggestion together. Since my original post and searching thru the tips on this sight I put togther this leader all connected with surgeon's knots:
20 - 36"
16 - 24"
14 - 18"
10 - 10"
8 - 10"
4 - 10"
= 9 ft.
What type of fishing would you consider this good for?
Also, I'm assuming from your post that after the swivel I connect the appropriate tippet of my choice.
Thanks again,
MJP

Do you have any articles on wrapping the tip top? I have no problems with single or double foot but the tip top ALWAYs gives me a problem. Thanks ...RTB

ashbee,
Print the article and take it to a fishing tackle shop or flyshop and just say "I want all this!" and point to the material's list. Wrap the whole thing with the print and you're set!
Your boyfriend will love you endlessly and kiss you more for that! ;-)

Very similar fly in orange color with spectra flash dubbing body has caught a lot of sea trout especially in the beginning of the season. It has been very popular in group of Czech flyfishers till the pink pig comes :-)

I agree that our fly's have become overboard. I think there are flies for fishing and flies for hobby (consuming time, like that Canadian winter.) I enjoy taking my time at the vise, never wanted to be a production tyer. The average tier like myself, I cannot tie elaborate patterns anywho, so I enjoy keeping things simple.

Shannon,
I guess you mean the XS reels?
I never tried or even handled the Snowbee, but as far as I can see they are cartridge reels, with one spool and exchangeable cartridges, which is a system I personally never liked. I have seen it on Leeda and Scierra reels and it looks much better on paper than it is in real life!
But as I said: no personal experience with the Snowbee's, so I can't really judge.

Would someone with creditability email and tell me what the fishing is like in Mid- September?
I am a guide in Florida but will be on a once in a life time trip to Honolulu, I would very much like to book a trip.

bah humbug (even so you compliment sounds nice) .... I tie OK, there is real good and innovative people out there ... just keep looking
I learned a lot by watching the Oliver Edwwards DVD`s - check them out. Brilliant stuff and I promise ... you will turn out very good flies in no time.

So, what do you think of the Snowbee XS series? It it worthy of consideration?

Hi George,
Yes, I use very small amount of dubbing in the original fly. The tier in the video, Fishigan, use much more then me, but it is not wrong if he has good results with the fly tied in his way.
Good luck!
