Traffic measurements have been disabled for a long time on GFF. For various reasons I have added some counting again
I was very bothered by the fact that the traffic measuring tool Google Analytics was prying on my web site data (and your behavior), and had a hard time finding a good alternative.
So I stopped counting. I stopped measuring and deleted all the Analytics data.
But lately I have seen some odd patterns in the simple page counters that are used to keep just a little track on what’s popular or not, and I decided to install a local and very discrete analytics system.
It’s called Matomo, and it’s now following the flow of visitors in greater detail, but exclusively for my own use and not sharing any data with anybody else.
I will allow it to run for some days or weeks now, and see if I can explain the odd numbers I sometime see. I have been very heavily hit by bots from AI-systems and odd search engines, and they sometime take a huge toll on the resources, which means that proper users - like you - will suffer from a slow site and long waits.
We can’t have that!
So I’m looking into the problems, and hope that you can accept just a little bit of discrete tracking.
PS: I can already see that I'm getting a suspiciously large number of visits from China. Not that the Chinese don't flyfish - I'm sure a few do, but I seriously doubt that the number of visits is representing real Chinese fly anglers. More information will very likely follow when I have been digging a bit more.
We can’t have that!
