The Sparkle Minnow is a very popular streamer at the moment. According to Google it was created back in the early 2000's but only recently gained popularity in the past few years. Now it is one of the most used streamers to fish for predatory trout, and for good reason. This is one of the flashiest streamers out there. The whole body is created with a flashy dubbing like Ice Dub, which will grab the fishes attention. And this works for more than just trout, Using this for bass would be very effective as well, and I imagine you could tie this on a saltwater hook and catch a wide range of saltwater gamefish as well. The thing about predatory trout, and other gamefish that eat other fish is that they tend to be more ambush predators. Meaning they sit in hiding, waiting for a small fish to swim by. Then quickly lunge out and eat, hopefully before that baitfish even knows what is happening. So getting the fishes attention is key with fishing for these predatory fish. And I dont think there is any other streamer out there that will grab a fishes attention as well as this extremely flashy sparkle minnow.
This fly not only is very flashy, but it moves incredibly well in the water. The marabou tail, and fine flashy dubbing will flow incredibly well with the slightest twitch of the fly line. If there is any current, even the slightest amount, the fiber will move and ungulate, looking like the bait is swimming or breathing. Creating a very lifelike presentation to the target fish. So you can swim this slow, and still elicit strikes. But it also fishes very well in quick strips, or strip-pause technique. Swinging this is also very effective. There is so many techniques that this fly does well, so there is no wondering why this has become such a popular fly over the years.
This is also fairly inexpensive to tie. While it's not extremely quick, or easy, it does use a small list of materials, and these materials can be had inexpensively. Just the marabou for the tail, Krystal flash, and dubbing for the body, none of these materials are expensive. The most expensive part will be the hook, and bead. However if you buy your beads and hooks from Risen Fly, you are getting very high quality but not at a high price. So overall I believe these are some of the most cost effective medium streamers out there.
