Dear friends,
Today I want to show you one of my basic spring nymphs, the Pulsar Peeping Caddis, a pattern I usually start fishing in April.
During this period, I prefer nymph fishing, and the peeping caddis is one of my confidence flies. Over time, and through more than 20 years of fishing, I developed this version to be as effective as possible when fishing close to structure such as large rocks, submerged trees, or deep pools, where the fly needs to look alive and move in an enticing way over short distances.
Because I often jig the fly between rocks to trigger trout strikes, I added a partridge collar to give the pattern more movement and life in the water. Later, because the water in those deep pools is often dark, I added a green-chartreuse ribbing at the head of the fly to create more sparkle and improve visibility. In the end, this nymph became even more effective than the classic version.
I hope you like it, and I strongly advise you to keep it in your fly box and use it in April and May. I am sure you will love it. :)
