Marjan Fratnik CDC Caddis Pattern.

Arguably the most famous CDC fly is the F-Fly ... and for good reason. But ... I already did a video on that fly long ago.

In doing this CDC history set of videos a pattern from Mr. Fratnik had to be included so I went with the F-Sedge just to highlight the man and his influence on fly fishing in relation to CDC.

He is from Slovenia and was born in 1919. It was not until 1977 though that he first learned of CDC via Rindlisbacher's book. On a business trip to Switzerland he went to Rindlisbacher's fly shop and bought some Entenburzelfliegen (basically Moustique de Jura flies). He had great success with them but found them to be fragile and lose the hackling after several fish captures. So he set out to tie a similar pattern with more longevity. The F-Fly was born...first written about in 1983. The F-Sedge follows in 1985.

Enjoy!

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
