Kevin Kirkelie Streamers

I'm not sure where he finds the time, but Kevin has been busy at the vise putting his creativity to work. Between waking up before first light to feed the farm animals and working hot steel in the gold mines, he somehow has time to put together some inspired streamers. Even the painful setback of a hand injury couldn't keep Kevin away from the vise.

In addition to being a talented streamer tyer, Kevin raises a flock of hackle chickens. He has some beautifully coloured dry fly hackle roosters, but is working on lines of hackle for the streamer crowd as well. Personally I can't wait because the capes I have from Kevin's flock are truly beautiful feathers. Kevin's genetic lines stem from Alsdorf, Pond and Brant stock and include a range of grizzly, badger, duns, ginger, and unique variations within.

Onto the streamers. My Sweet Lady is a pattern dedicated to Kevin's better half. A little gesture of love toward someone who has given him the freedom to pursue his passions in life. It's a beautiful pattern marked for steelhead waters in its pink and blue dressing.

Running along the tradition of patriotic themed streamers, Kevin has created his own, "Ole" Glory. It is tied to honour the men, women and families of the service.

Crested Glory and Dark Green Perch are tied to imitate the plentiful baitfish in his home waters. They are tied as a light and dark versions and have been excellent streamers for some big river fish.

Cree-ation is a fly with a striking Cree hackle wing. The brown trout haven't missed the beauty and have on more than one occasion snapped up the fly to get a closer look. Kevin uses this pattern primarily during the fall fishing sessions in Montana.

Backpacking high in the mountains with equine companions is something cathartic, and the Trails End is a reminder of that. The mountains provide a backdrop to some of the most breathtaking sunsets imaginable. The rich colour is a tribute to the memory of riding back into camp after a day on the trails.

No wallet is complete without a few black patterns, and the Night Fall and The Northern Lights fit the bill. While Kevin served as a guide in Montana, he was once able to glimpse the northern lights. It was inspiring to see the colours dancing in the night sky, and something rare enough that it deserved a place in his history.

The Purple Shiner and The Jewel of the Nile both feature a unique element to Kevin's fly tying. While looking to add a little unique flash to his streamers, Kevin decided to try adding little gems to the eyes.

Peek-a-bou is something Kevin tied on a whim. Something that you just know in your gut that's gonna be a fish catcher. We've all been there, sitting at the vise, thread in hand, feathers all over and dreams of full creels dancing around in our thoughts. This particular combination had been stuck in his head for some time, so it was best to get it out and put thoughts into substance. When it was completed, it was deemed a "Should catch a fish" streamer and was promptly put to work. But as luck would have it, the stinger came back empty. Not for lack of trying though. We can't call it fishing if we always are catching, and other lies we tell ourselves. Perhaps some of us might be better suited to swinging golf clubs than swinging streamers... some days at least.

Thanks Kevin for sharing your streamers with us.

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
