Come out for an exclusive weekend getaway tying classic flies with Don Bastian at Dream Corners B'nB in Fergus.

The weekend will start early Friday evening March 22 with an informal dinner in town. Class will start Saturday morning after a hearty country breakfast learning to tie Classic Wet Flies. After lunch the instruction will switch to tying Classic New England Style Streamers. Saturday evening will feature a home cooked dinner at Dream Corners. Sunday morning class will continue with tying the Favourite Flies of Mary Orvis Marbury. This is a rare opportunity to learn with a master fly tier and re-owned expert of these classic patterns.

A variety of techniques using an array of different methods will include material selection, application, and finishing procedures. Personalized class instruction will focus on methods and techniques designed to improve the quality of your flies, whether tying to fish, for presentation, or both. The weekend will also be filled with fishing tips, tactics, and techniques drawn from extensive personal fishing gained during Don's 48 years on the water. Specific attention will also be given to the individual student's interest and requests.

Don has been tying flies since 1964, and has twenty-eight years experience as a fly tying instructor. He is the author of three instructional DVD's: Tying Classic Wet Flies, Advanced Classic Wet Flies, and Traditional Streamers and Bucktails.

Don has more than one-thousand wet flies, dry flies, streamers, and bucktails published in print and on-line. One of Don's original flies "Bastian's Floating Caddis Emerger" has just been accepted by Orvis and will be available for sale through them. He is currently working on his first book, a new contemporary take on the fishing flies of 1892. Many of these classics are featured in the Mary Orvis Marbury book, "Favorite Flies and Their Histories" He lives in Pennsylvania.

This class is for intermediate and advanced tiers. Students must bring their own tools and materials. A list of patterns and materials will be provided prior to the weekend following registration and a deposit.

Weekend cost is $499 pp + taxes Includes 2 nights stay at Dream Corners, 2 Dinners, 2 breakfasts and 1 lunch. Coffee and beverages will be provided throughout the day.

If you like to tie flies, are a more than just a beginner, then you should take this class. Don is one of the best tyers in the world and has probably forgotten more than most of us will ever know about tying. This kind of class, and this level of teacher, comes along only once in a lifetime. I highly recommend the class & Don.
Cheers, Joel
P.S. Don is also a really nice guy.

Hi Joel;
Gee, your compliment is really kind and very, shall I say, glowing. Thank you so much for your endorsement! I do love tying and also teaching. It's rewarding to have students learn and tell me their tying has improved as a result of my efforts. Thanks again!

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
