#174 Red Devil (Var) - Steve Labrecque #174 Red Devil (Var) - Steve Labrecque

Tied by: Steve Labrecque
Originated by: Carrie Stevens
Source: Carrie G. Stevens: Maker of Rangeley Favorite Trout and Salmon Flies - Hilyard Pg. 144-145

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Rangeley Streamer hook 8xl #1
Thread: White
Tail: Red hackle fibers
Body: Red floss
Rib: Flat silver tinsel
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: Red hackle fibers
Underwing: Peacock herl
Wing: 2 blue hackles flanked by red hackle
Shoulder: Barred wood duck
Eyes: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black

Notes: This is a bit of a variation of Carrie Stevens' Red Devil using a barred wood duck feather on the shoulder of the streamer. Mrs. Stevens used a white and brown barred feather from a ruffed grouse and the head was finished with an orange thread band. While it isn't a huge change in terms of materials, the barred wood duck really give the pattern a new spin and fits in quite naturally.

I am not a fisherwoman, but that fly is truly a thing of beauty, worth being framed in its own right.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
