$Winter fly - Shooting this Joergen\'s Demon against the low winter sun made a very good point of it being a good winter fly, but left the reel in a bit of a shadow$

$Compact, SLR? - These cameras will all do excellent macro, from the minute Canon Ixus over the larger Canon D10 and Canon A95 to the Nikon D40 SLR and the massive Nikon D300s. But you can get compacts at a tenth or less than the price of the D300s as it\'s equipped here.$

$Backgrounds - I\'ve <a href=\"/gallery/digitizing/backgrounds.html\">experimented a lot with backgrounds.</a>$

$Two lamps - A simple two-lamp setup: a neutral light florescent lamp overhead and a cheap halogen lamp as a fill light. A piece of white paper as the background, and you\'re all set. Notice the \"remote\" trigger - an old fashioned mechanical cable trigger - which helps avoid shake.$

$Against a sunset - If there hadn\'t been used a flash here the fly would have been a mere silhouette$

$Fabric diffuser - This cheap fabric diffuser can be used to soften the flash light a bit. It won\'t work miracles, but just remove the harshest shadows$

$A small DIY softbox - For fly photography you don\'t need the largest softbox. This small home made model has done very well for me on numeral occasions. <a href=\"http://500th.net/build-a-small-softbox\">You can build your own</a>$

$The full monty - I often use several flashes, umbrellas, softboxes, striplights and all sorts of lighting accessories. Once you start going down that path, it\'s hard to return... Here I\'m shooting autumn leaves, but it might as well have been flies$
