Folks,
Here's an other likely source for elastic leg material. Moderate size spools, good prices and both clear and in many colors.

Nice you have a great deal of detail i like it. Keep up the good work! What was the matl. for the legs?
Ron,
The fly is a Blood Nosed Frede, and it's basically the same as The Grey Fred with the added benefit of a red front hackle or -- as here -- red dubbing over the eyes in stead of the grey marabou used for the regular pattern. Sometimes the marabou body dubbing is also mixed with or replaced with something brighter like synthetic Ice Dubbing.

It's nice being able to converse with the ViseMeister and soon find the result
on the front porch in the company of penguins...

I like to tweak... and came up with a few what if's...
Jay set me up with a second shaft that sported a custom tilt-able "knuckle head"
that allows for a variable angle of attack...
the standard fuselage is attached to that...
add the jawz or tube fly conversion and away ya' go... NICE!
the classic "J" removed...

the tube fly conversion... TUBULAR! EASY!...

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa176/Phracas/P8011354.jpg
being able to tilt the head worksforme... I find the variable angle of attack to be more comfortable...

Jay is an engineer and an artist... His work speaks for itself!
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa176/Phracas/P7281330.jpg
'another "option"... the pedestal/desk stand attached to a curious wooden base
of my own choosing...
there are some interesting and affordable cutting boards out there on the cheap...
the stand will accept any standard vertical shaft without complaint...
I LIKE IT... A BUNCH !

To all readers of our article
I mentioned the DUNCAN LOOP to connect the knoted leader to the fly line, thats WRONG we are using the PERFECTION LOOP because of its reliability and simplisity! !
Sorry for the misshap...

What a great story. Brought back many memories of my Grandfather and I fishing for native rainbows on the stream that meandered along the property when I was a child.
The Brown Spinner looks like it would be very effective here, and so I see some tying for my weekend. Though my Grandfather has been gone for many years now, I think he'll be trying them out with me.

I've been fly fishing the flats at Hickam pretty unsuccesfully here for about six months. I see lots of fish, but just don't have what they want I guess. Im new to fly fishing in general so Im probably doing something wrong. If any other newbies want to get together on a weekend to go fish the flats on O'ahu, let me know. I'd love to have someone to fumble through this with.

Guys,
Kern spent some hours on the net and found out what he had on his fly tying desk. It is a rubber band used for making trinkets.
It is called Crystal tec and can be bought in kilometers here (or just 100 meters!) (the site is in Danish!).
The one used on Kern's Perfect Leo Shrimp is 0.5 mm.

I agree that flyfishing gear in general is overpriced, but it's a combination of what the traffic will bear, and volume. How many spinning reels are manufactured for each fly reel, ya reckon? I'm a machinist, and I know about CNC processes. You can make a million way cheaper per than you can make a thousand.

Hi, today I bought Pearl barred Sili Legs distributed by Veniard. It looks very interesting and do the job well.
