A friend of mine has replaced Spey feathers with his dog fur. He uses long hair from his honey-brown hovawart as shrimp's legs and underfur dubbing for shrimp's body. The fly looks very good and caught a lot of fish.
In my opinion shrimp made from dog fur is much durable than shrimp made from Spey feathers.
I prefer Spey feathers because my friend doesn't want to dye his dog to pink colour :-)))
Hello to all of you fanatics..isn't it novel to what extremes a flyfisherman/tyer will export his energies to the developement a single pattern,such as this inovative shrimp by Kern Leo Lund. Hands down,a winner! The photowork is definitely satisfiying. Thanks tons for this technique. Tom Gibbons

After the death of my son in 2007 flyfishing was then as now my means of escaping the pain of loss I find that when I'm on the water or at my tying desk the world slows dowm for a moment & gives me time to think about what's important in life & all the joy's that the sport/art of flytying/flyfishing has brought to my life thanks for another good videos & view points, tight lines friends.

Dark Pardo is nice and buggy as well but a bit darker [go phigure?!]... The Whiting American Rooster Cape Cree is another winner as is the Whiting Flatwing Fly Saddle Bronze Grizzly/Tan...

Regarding das J-Vise... I'm Pete and I have a vise vice... I'm a vise-a-holic... My collection of hook-holding "sculptures" is wonderfully embarrassing and nothing short of functionally obsessive and I have NO regrets...

I've made it a point to try the Big Three... Tuffleye, CCG, and Bug-Bond... These light cured acrylics are AMAZING!
My attachment to TF FLEX is solid and goes way back but... I must say that the BUG-BOND alternative is nothing short of BRILLIANT...
The BB delivery system [to include the tip kit] is second to none... when my CCG supply is gone, it will NOT be replenished...

Love tying these ! However I do have trouble with the heads. I am using holographic eyes and would like to know should my eyes be put on first before doing the epoxy head covering or after? Also should I cover the top half with epoxy let it dry, then do the bottom half , I seem to finish up with an uneven head. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Great theory if we (Flyperson) take time to break down why we flyfish the list is endless what's fits one does'nt fit another so in the end share your ideas who knows you may bring joy or open up a whole new world for your fellow fly people, tight lines & keep the fur & feathers fly'n

The best way to obtain such an item on a regular basis is probably to go on hunting boards which service areas where the black squirrel variant exist and find a local hunter whose willing to assassinate a bunch for you and send you the cured skins. You also might try contacting wildlife control contractors in the same regions and negotiating a similar deal.

In the previous exercise I placed several CDL pheatherz over the white body to achieve a formidable contrast...
Below I welded in a Cree pheather on each side and overlayed with WHITE to subdue the contrast and insinuate a phishy profile...

Wow, that stuff looks awesome. No chance you currently have some and would be willing to stick a cured blop of it in your oven for me (230F for half an hour) and see if it yellows? I would just buy some, but I'm low on cash and would love to know if it can take the heat before spending. Thanks for the link.
Hello. I found this thread when I was doing a google search. I'm looking for an epoxy/resin that won't yellow when baked at 230F in the oven for half an hour (I'm adding pieces of polymer clay to my projects, and this requires the baking). I need something as close to clear as possible. What would you guys suggest? Thanks.
First off I have to say that I have always liked the looks of the eyes on return loop eyed hooks - streamer & salmon. All the Diiachi hooks with loop eyes are just wonderful. The hooks themselves are a work of art! Mustad has some serious work cut out for them in this department. I love the Mustad 9575, except for that infernal non-tapered return loop. I lump Mustad salmon hooks in this same category - poor. Until Mustad fixes this I will not use those particular hooks after I run out of the supply I have now. I do like and use, all the other streamer hooks by Mustad.
Mike Martineks streamer hooks are VERY nice, I personally think they are way more suited to tying the Carrie Stevens patterns than the hooks that are actually called the Carrie Stevens hook, put out by Partridge(?).
I also use the TMC 300s. The eye on this hook could be a tad smaller, but is not a sticking point for me. Nice hook really. Best regards, Dave S.
