Framing flies

Had some fun framing flies today

I have for a long time wanted to do a GFF article on framing flies. By many referred to as shadow boxes.

I have framed quite a few flies in my time, and often use the finished frames as gifts. The expenses are small, the work is easy to overcome and the result is often a unique and much appreciated present.

I have always bought my frames finished either in a store which caters to artists and painters or in the local supermarket. The grocery where I shop every day had some really neat and inexpensive frames just last week with mattes precut for two or three pictures. Usually I cut the mattes myself, which is actually the most demanding single step in creating a nice shadow box.

Converting a frame with a ready cut matte to display flies requires little skill, few materials and an hour or two of work.

I remember having taken some pictures for a potential article a while back. I will dig them out and get that article rolling... as soon as I get the time...

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
