Djihad

The Djihad is a bright fly with a shiny body, silver combined with black and red. Just my kind of fly. I like the Irish Shrimp tradition flies, and this is such a fly on steroids. It even uses one of my favorite materials: Golden Pheasant.

Djihad - Here tied on a large stinger hook. See materials and full pattern description.
Djihad

This very politically inappropriately named fly was designed by Danish fly-fisher and photographer Steen Larsen. While I don't agree with Steen in many of his ideas about coastal fishing, I have to admit that this particular fly is very appealing to my eyes. It's been around for years and years, but I never tied or fished it before. With its combination of silver, red and black I imagine that it can become a lighter dressed stand-in for my beloved Bloody Butchers.

The basic pattern falls somewhere in the group of Ullsok, Omoe Brush, Irish Shrimp-tradition flies. It even uses some colors that I love: silver, black and red and materials that I love, in particular the red Golden Pheasant feathers. The large black front hackles on my Djihads come from my own roosters, which I used to have in my garden when I lived in a house.

I have tied my Djihads fairly large, and I think they will be excellent flies for rough water.

Choppy - In water like this a bright fly can do wonders. I usually choose a Bloody Butcher, but this season the Djihad will be an alternative
Surf - The Djihad is perfect for rough water

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
