Jay Zimmerman's Backstabber

Jay Zimmerman designed this carp fly pattern over a few years, but its genesis came from a tying session of big articulated bass flies. Jay was working in stages to tie the flies and while inspecting the marabou tail sections, it occurred that this may be a good fly for carp. With a series of iterations over the following years, Jay arrived at the Backstabber as we know it.

The fly may be tied in a variety of colors, but Jay suggests darker, drab natural colors for the best results. Marabou is used for the wing but may be subbed for fox hair or synthetic hair so long as it maintains the movement.
Jay states that he has caught hundreds if not thousands of carp on this pattern over the years.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
