An English born and Norway based fly tyer, photographer and author
Born in England, Barry Ord Clarke is an internationally renowned fly tyer, photographer, and author whose work has earned recognition around the world. A medal winner at some of the most prestigious international fly-tying competitions, Barry’s flies are represented in several notable collections, including the iconic Flyfishers’ Club collection in London and the Catskill Master Fly Collection at the Catskill Museum in the United States.
In 2016, Barry received the highly regarded Claudio D’Angelo Award for Best International Fly Tyer, further establishing his reputation as one of the leading figures in the craft.
Two years later, in 2018, he completed a seven-year collaboration with Marc Petitjean on the book Petitjean CDC, an extensive work dedicated to the use of CDC in fly tying.
Barry was named Fly Tyer Magazine’s Fly Tyer of the Year in 2021. This prestigious honour recognised his outstanding international contribution to fly tying, particularly through his books and instructional videos, as well as his innovative techniques, commitment to sharing his knowledge, and enduring passion for the sport.
He is the author of several acclaimed books, including The Feather Bender’s Flytying Techniques, The Feather Bender’s Advanced Flytying Techniques, Flytying for Beginners, and Deer Hair Flytying Masterclass.
For the past 27 years, Barry has made his home in Norway, where he works as a professional photographer and fly-tying consultant for Mustad and Veniard Ltd.
Through his popular blog and YouTube channel, The Feather Bender, Barry continues to share fly-tying demonstrations, techniques, and inspiration with fly tyers around the world.
