Capt Mel, great knot! I have been using the nailless nail knot for years and almost forget how to tie one using the tube. I have been looking for a tube that I can use to practice this knot but no one seems to have one. Do you sell tubes for this knot? I use to use an albright on my tarpon lines but it made the knot a little big.

It might not be correct above, but the word certainly exists. "Ray showed himself to be an excellent fly-caster" is absolutely correct as far as I know - but then again, I'm not a native English speaker, so I might of course be wrong.
And reading a little about the word, showed is often referred to as "technically correct" but in practice, shown rules the day.

I've always been a big fan of bucktails. Loretta you did a fine job here. I've never seen this pattern before.
Thank you Kelly and Jim. These flies I submitted this year took alot of practice as I had not tied the streamer patterns in 10x long before. I think I went through about enough bucktail to tie 10 times as many flies for each fly I tied.
I have tied flies for many years and I have tied this style many ways. Your method is the most effective and practical way to construct a comparadun. Strong and duriable, they work and they last.
I have a bunch of original Bill Edson flies. My father-in-law was a close friend of his and when Bill died his wife gave him a lot of the flies that were in Bill Edson's shop. I have 3 leather cases, 2 from his shop full of flies. Also have 2 cigarette tins, one full of Bill Edson size 0 and one full of Dot Edson size 0. I can get some pictures together of the different flies. Have a lot of tying equipment and need to start tying some. Don't want to use any of the originals.

I watched a tyer at the Somerset Show struggle with a popular brand "R" that needed a major overhaul... it was painful...
The cam-jaws were toast, the finish would make a zombie proud, and there was a general worn out feeling but the guy was distracted and oblivious...

Sorry for the waiting, I was reading your question today! I don't have blue prints from my reels , only drawings without measurements and they are already in the article. It is nice to hear that you and your students like the designs.
You can use the article drawings to make reels for your own use, but I hope that you will not sell them to make profit.

The curing time seems to depend on the power of the light. The more powerful the lamp, the faster the curing. I have different battery driven lights and the one with the highest wattage does the best job. You can also get lamps to plug into a power socket for even more brightness and you can actually give the flies a final hardening in direct sun.
Regarding wavelength the manufacturers of course recommend their own lamps, but my experience is that they actually cure each others resins quite fine.
