Thunder Creek Minnow

The Thunder Creek Minnow, also known as the Thunder Creek Silver Shiner, is pattern by a commercial fly tyer mr. Keith Fulsher. The fly is fairly known in the world of fly fishing and fly tying. However it hasn't maybe earned its respect after all them years compared how successful it can be while fished, there's even a book on Thunder Creek Minnows! The Thunder Creek was developed because Keith felt the standard minnow tying method of a large thread head with painted eyes didn't properly represent the naturals. The fly is suppose a baitfish and there you can imitate all sort of small baitfish or smelt just playing around with colours. Keith's reverse tied bucktail added detail and allowed for a variety of patterns to be tied with the method. The story goes that Keith tested the fly on Wisconsin's Thunder Creek with good results. I personally have had nice seatrout on it here in Iceland, but it's not a common pattern in Iceland at all! Maybe that will change in time who knows. Tips when tying the fly is instead of using the red permanent marker like I do in the video, you can also paint the gills on the fly with red varnish. Or to prevent any mess, you can swap tying threads and finish the fly with a red thread for the gills. Originally the eyes were painted on but I prefer to use epoxy eyes and glue them on the head with UV resin. It's a fun fly to tie.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
