#67-2013 Gierach Special - Bob Petti #67-2013 Gierach Special - Bob Petti

Tied by: Bob Petti
Originated by: John Gierach
Source: Trout Bum, John Gierach (1988) pg. 190-191

Hook: Unknown 4xl #6-#12
Thread: Red
Body: Pearl mylar tinsel over white floss, lacquered
Throat: Sparse white bucktail just past the hook bend
Wing: Gray squirrel tail and pearl/uv-pearl crystal flash
Topping: Peacock herl
Head: Salmon Egg Red
Eyes: Black on white

Notes: It was only after reading John Gierach's Trout Bum that I even considered fishing bamboo rods, on tiny mountain streams with simple little buck tails. John started out calling his streamer the Gray Squirrel Streamer on account of the wing material, but eventually someone caught on to his creation and started to refer to it as the Gierach Special. The original pattern calls for a body of pearl flashabou piping would over a weighted body, and the specific salmon egg red head. These little ties are the perfect throw for pools that collect on the trickles of water you can jump across.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
