The Near Nuff Crayfish

A Deadly Fly That Looks Alive

If you fish for bass, you need to see this fly…

In this video, I’m tying the Near Nuff Crayfish—an incredibly effective crayfish fly pattern originally designed by Dave Whitlock.

This is a detailed fly tying tutorial where I walk you step-by-step through the entire process, from the dumbbell eyes and materials, all the way to the final finishing touches.

The Near Nuff Crawdad is a proven bass fly, but it also works great for trout, carp, and other species that feed on crayfish.

What makes this fly so effective is the way it sits and moves in the water—
with a realistic profile, lifelike movement, and a defensive crawfish posture that triggers aggressive strikes.

It does take a little time to tie this one, but once you understand the steps, it becomes much easier—and the results are well worth it.

In this fly tying video, I’m using materials like:
- rabbit strip
- dubbing
- rubber legs
- pheasant feathers
- and dumbbell eyes for weight (not to mimic crayfish eyes)

If you’re looking for an effective crayfish fly pattern, bass fly, or just want to improve your fly tying skills, this is a great one to add to your fly box.

Let me know if you fish the Near Nuff Crayfish—and what it’s caught for you.

Since you got this far …

A money box
The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
