here in UK, we tie the exact fly , very , very simply. We refer to it as "The Leech". With incredible results for Trout.

With reference to you keeping it simple

Please excuse me, I couldn't contact you via e-mail as I don't have a Microsoft account etc...
However, with reference to you keeping it simple. I tried to do the same with Tubes. Using, simply the cut off tubes from ear cleaning ear-buds. Then simply whipping on a collection of the same colour strands of tinsel, slightly longer than the Tube , to cover the hook etc..I went fishing last week and thought I would use them on one of the most horrific days of the week, weather wise. I caught some magnificent Browns and a bag full of Rainbows. I was absolutely gob-smacked about the results. It didn't matter whether I retrieved the Tube-fly fast or slowly. I still got fish. The tubes in question , were only 2 to 2&1/2 inches long. I tied the tinsel strips on with white cotton and actually used a permanent ink pen to dot on a black eye dot onto the white cotton etc...How much more simple could they be ? With fish in the bag ?

May I just say thank you so much for putting this all together to help a novice such as myself. I can only describe my relief as being "BRILLIANT" that I have found such an informative page.
I did try to make flies on the hook but for some reason I find this method much, much, more appealing.

Yes, both the kayak and the little GoPro perform very well, and I'm pretty pleased with both.
No, I haven't fished for real from the kayak yet. I hope to be able to do so before the autumn turns to winter.

Thank you for the kayak ride thru the canals of Copenhagen, one of my favorite cities of the world. I think you made the correct choice of the inflatable Straightedge Angler. On the video it appears to be very stable; I suppose the real test is its performance in more turbulent water. The GoPro camera is very impressive too. I felt as if I was on the smooth gliding ride of a gifted hot air balloon ride of several years ago. Have you by now taken the kayak on a fishing trip? Unwanted changes make us unhappy but without those changes we would be in an emotional meltdown. I wish you good luck in this autumn sea trout fishing. Kate

Martin, thanks for the information. Duck season has just started here in New York State and I was fortunate to have met a duck hunter who gave me 7 duck carcasses of Mallards and Wood ducks. Skinning wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be and I was able to get most off in one piece. I will clean with a mild detergent and let them sit in Borax for a few days to die them out. Your steaming suggestion with be a great asset on ce the hides dry. Thank you.

Like David above, I have always had mixed results with the wooly bugger. But this weekend, I tied up a few in black and a couple in brown, but I added a coil of lead under the body, and headed out to the Current River in SE Missouri. After nymphing without any luck, i tied on a huge black and caught a trout on the first cast. I kept throwing it, and they kept taking it. I think I had caught 10 or more before a fish snapped it off. But the spell was broken somehow... Using a different black, and then a brown, I couldn't get any more interest.

I have used real her

I have used real heron (grey), and it is amazing stuff. However when I can't use it my go to is goose, if used properly it looks great, try burning it yourself.
