The Northerner

When chasing sea trout - either by the coastal line or in the rivers and streams, streamers imitating small baitfish is often the key to success. Our very own Steve Silverio has designed this beautiful yet effective pattern that combines the traditional scandinavian wet fly tradition for sea trout fishing in running waters and the colorscheme that has many times proven its effectiveness on big sea trouts.

Hook: Ahrex NS105 Streamer Barbless #4
Thread: Black
Tail: Red Hen hackle
Body: Oval Silver tinsel #L
Wing: Arctic Fox White
Hackle: Yellowhen hackle and black laced hen hackle dyed peach
Roof: Northern Shoveler or Bronze Mallard
Sides: Jungle Cock

This is the perfect colour combination for sea-run Cutthroat trout along BC's Vancouver Island coastline. Our local "American Coachman" fly pattern is a proven standard here and shares the same basic overall colour scheme.... red, white and yellow. The "Northener" should work equally well for our cutties.
Cheers!

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
