This is an awesome informative on different striking methods. The one question I'd have is in the "What I don't do" segment. Im having a hard time visualizing what you mean when you say " the rod...at steep angles like 60-90 degrees to the fish or even backwards" and also "Pull the straight line with the rod low and pointed towards the fish, ...and at 20-30 degrees.." is there anything that could be added to that to help clarify? I really appreciate the help

I have read global flyfisher for quite sometime. I seem to remember an earlier Ismo dawn article that was a featherwing. Would it be possible to bring it back? I'm sure that newer visitors to global flyfisher would love to see it.

That certainly depends on what video(s) you are referring to... if it's the ones that I have made, I'm using a Waldron vise, which is no longer available on the market. You can find them used, but they are pretty expensive.

Some excellent work. These classic patterns have a singular attribute - they look "fishy."
Along with that, they are simply beautiful. Their sweeping curves, vibrant color and intriguing names take us back to that grand and ealier time we too often care nothing about. So few know these flies were the genesis, the foundation upon which our sport was built.
It is encouraging to find them making a comeback.
I visited the Swiss Alps back in '72, while in the Army serving in Germany, and, though not a trout fisherman at the time, I was truly amazed at the abundance and the size of the trout in the streams there; I thought that it surely must be a fisherman's paradise. However, I never saw any anglers in the streams that I hiked along, just LOTS of trout, amazing quatities of trout. So, I figured that fishing must be illlgal in those streams, some of which ran right alongside the paved roads I used for sightseeing purposes. Some of the deeper holes had fish in them that looked to be in the 21/2-3lb range; one deeper hole in particular was so small in diameter that the fish seemed to be bumping into each other while jostling for a safer position as their gazes met with mine. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera at the time, but the mental images will last a lifetime.

sorry to answer so late. but my job kept me busy. Well the big Streamers work well with all kind of XMas Lametta on hook and tube, the trout Version is too much time consuming, so I use the the fluff ones or the hard body of epoxy with a tinsel tail. The small ones on a hook and not on tube. If I am lucky I will have a Project in Mauritius - if so your streamers will be with me
