Dick's Killer

Dick's Killer

Tyer: Lindsey Grandison
Tag: Narrow flat gold tinsel, very long
Tail: About fifteen strands of golden pheasant tippet, rather long
Body: Wound fairly heavy with peacock herl
Wing: A bunch of yellow bucktail, short enough so that it will not catch under the hook. An extra long shanked hook is used.
Topping: A very small bunch of strands from a woodduck or mandarin duck breast feather, nearly as long as the wing
Shoulders: Each a section of red turkey feather, rather slim but nearly as long as the wing.
Cheeks: Jungle cock, two thirds as long as the wing

Note: Dick's Killer was originated by Dick Eastman of New Hampshire in 1928. After receiving some of these flies, Edson replied to Eastman that they worked well for him, too. The influence of the Dick's Killer on the Light Tiger, developed in 1929, is obvious.
