This book is some years old and can be bought used for about 10 US dollars, which makes it a very good deal, because this is an excellent book.
There's not much beating around the bush. We start with a short general chapter on fly tying and and tools, and then go on to the essential: the patterns.
The book lists 38 of them and some variations. Each with a short intro, a materials list and step by step images of the tying sequence. None of the flies are particularly complex, but all are efficient and well proven flies, that will serve most saltwater anglers well. Of course saltwater in this case means the traditional US saltwater and traditional tropical saltwater, fishing for permit, bonefish and tarpon.

There aren't many surprises in the book

There aren't many surprises in the book, which contains patterns like Lefty's Deceiver, Crease Fly, Crazy Charlie and other well known classics.
This is not a book that will earn many coffee table points. It's very down-to-earth, but still a very useful staple book for the beginning saltwater fly tyer who wants to have the recipes and instructions for some basic patterns on print. For more seasoned tyers it might be a bit redundant, and the introductory tying instructions are absolutely basic.
The book's quality is excellent with very clear photos and instructions supplemented with a few fishing pictures, but no elaborate fly plates or stunning fishing scenes.
Altogether a very fine book for 10 US$ and even an OK book for the cover price of 22 dollars.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
