How it started

A short story about the book review section.

How did it start?

The book reviews started out as a result of Martin's extravagant shopping. He bought some nice books, and thought he'd share his notions with others. What was more natural than sharing with the members of the mailing list @FLYFISH?

So he mailed the message below to the list, and got a lot of positive response. This led to the start of the book reviews section.

Hi fellow FF'ers

I happen to be quite fond of books, both fiction and fact. i buy a few from time to time, and -- seen in the light of our common interest in FF'ing -- it probably doesn't come as a surprise that I also acquire book on fishing and tying.

Here is an idea: how about reviewing books for each others benefit? I'd like to get new ideas for books to look into, and get opinions on books I have, plan to have or just have seen somewhere.

If this should be of any interest, I'd like to start off. Within the last months I acquired several interesting books, among which the following titles would be obvious for a review:

Oliver Edwards, Flytyers Masterclass
Darrel Martin, Micropatterns
Judith Dunham (ed.), The Art of the Trout Fly
John Roberts (ed.), The World's Best Trout Flies

I've had inspiration from all of these books, but might not be the right person to review them all. Darrel Martins smallies aren't exactly my standard patterns, but it sure is an interesting book in many ways.

How about it, listers?

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
