A little difficult
  1. Slip the cone onto the hook shank. You may have to press down the barb for it to pass.
  2. Start the thread just behind the hook eye.
  3. Build a foundation for the cone.
  4. Whip finish and cut thread.
  5. Varnish the wrap and press the cone head onto the wet varnish.
  6. Let dry.
  7. Start thread behind the cone head.
  8. Tie in oval tinsel.
  9. Cover tinsel with touching thread wraps to the rear of the hook shank.
  10. Wrap the thread back to the tie in point in touching tuens.
  11. Smooth the thread wraps with something smooth and round.
  12. Tie in the flat tinsel.
  13. Wrap the tinsel in touching turns to the rear of the hook shank and back to form a smooth body.
  14. Tie the tinsel down and trim.
  15. Prepare a skin strip and tie down in the front of the body.
  16. Pull it back and separate the hairs right over the oval tinsel.
  17. Take the tinsel forward under the shank and through the separated hair.
  18. Separate more hair a bit further forwards.
  19. Take the tinsel forward again under the shank and through the separated hair.
  20. Repeat until the front of the body has been reached - ideally about 5-6 wraps of the rib.
  21. Tie down the rib and trim.
  22. Prepare a bunch of deer hair by removing underfur and stacking tips.
  23. Trim the butts and tie in at the start of the body.
  24. Hold on to the tips and let the butts flair.
  25. Sucure with more turns through the same spot.
  26. Press the deer hair rearwards to compress it.
  27. Prepare more hair and tie in and spin in front of the existing hair.
  28. Repeat until the space behind the cone is densely packed with spun hair.
  29. Whip finish behind the cone and trim thread.
  30. Varnish just behind the cone and let dry.
  31. Trim the deer hair with a scalpel or a razor blade.
  32. Follow the lines of the cone, but don't cut the collar.
  33. Trim loose hairs with scissors and shape the rear of the head to create a distinct back edge.

Long story short

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
