Fishy photos: Susanne Worm

Danish angler and photographer Susanne Worm has a keen eye for great images. I asked her our usual round of fishy questions.

I have long been a fan of Susanne, whose images I had seen on her web sites and on Facebook where she's a frequent poster. She was a natural participant in our series on Fishy Photographers and below you find her replies to our usual questions.

How did you start photographing – and what made you choose fishing related photos in particular?

I started photographing to document my catches. In order to present a fish I had taken in the best way - and show a form of respect for my catch. I also wanted to share my joy of a beautiful fish with others in a nice way.

Do you have a particular subject, region or a style of pictures that you mainly shoot or are you more all-round?

I think I'm pretty all-round, I do however have a preference for taking pictures of fishing in saltwater. Especially in the local Limfjord and on the west coast of Jutland. I fish both with both fly and spinning rods and tie my own flies too, and my pictures reflect that.
I also shoot landscapes and like dramatic weather in particular.

Where are your photos used? Books, magazines, brochures, ads, web sites, prints, gallery exhibits or other places?

My pictures are used in local fishing guidebooks among other places. I also have a couple of websites with photos. One www.rygfinner.dk is mostly about fishing and the other www.wormnaturfoto.dk is mainly about the nature I visit without a fishing rod. I love the Danish west coast and the magnificent landscape that is found there. Like fishing, it provides a relaxing experience and you get some lovely photos and great impressions to bring home.

Is photography your main source of income - if at all a source of income - and do you do other jobs as a supplement?

No, photography is just a hobby. It is a form of stress relief that gives a great sense of satisfaction at the same time.

Can people buy your pictures and if so, then in which form and where?

People usually send an email if they find pictures of interest. Then we take it from there.

Where do you currently live and work?

I live in Denmark on the island of Mors, located in the Limfjord in northwestern Jutland. The island has some great trout water and isn't not far from the West Coast mackerel or sea bass. I work at a private school and has done so for almost 15 years.

What's in your bag? Preferred cameras, bodies, lenses and other gear?

Photo equipment for fishing is preferably a waterproof pocket camera - Olympus Tough TG3, which takes super pictures despite its compactness.
Otherwise I use my Canon 5D Mark 3 with L lenses from Canon. The big gear is mainly for nature and landscapes, as it takes up too much space on a fishing trip.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
