The pattern is a template for a simple tube fly, which is easy to vary - mainly by changing the front hackle and maybe adding some bling.
This is the pattern for the Wood Duck Stube. Adapt to your needs and temper.

- Depending on your tube tool, you can add the plastic lining before or after you tie the fly.
- Start the thread on the rear of the tapered part of the bottle.
- Prepare a black hen hackle by removing the fluffy barbs
- Tie it in tip first, shiny side out.
- Wrap it as a wet fly hackle as many times as possible - typically 3-4 turns.
- Stroke back the barbs to get then to point rearwards.
- Tie the stem down and cut surplus.
- Catch 3-4 straws of silver flash behind the thread and tie it down.
- Wrap the thread forwards, leaving space for the front hackle and a small head.
- Wrap the silver flash in touching turns to where the thread wraps end.
- Tie it down and cut surplus.
- Prepare the front hackle by removing the fluffy part.
- Stroke most fibers away from the tip, leaving a few to tie in.
- Tie in the feather shiny side out.
- Fold the tip back and cover the fold with a couple of thread wraps.
- Take the thread forwards, leaving space for a small head.
- Fold the hackle barbs to the rear and wrap the hackle in as many turns as possible, typically 3-5 turns depending on the feather.
- Stroke back the barbs while wrapping to get them to sweep to the rear.
- Tie down the stem and cut surplus.
- Form a small head, whip finish and cut thread.
- Varnish the head wraps 2-3 times, letting the varnish dry between each coating.
